Realm grinder is best played in a mix of active and idle play. Early in a run active play is good. Once you get some gems there's some good offline builds for idle play. Undead (especially with Drow) are good for offline production. I'm at R52 right now so a lot of my game is spent building up mana produced, spells cast, spell active time, etc.
